Just started listening to this brooklyn native and I have to say I kind of like what I hear. It's definitely not hip hop. She describes her genre of music as rock/pop/soul on her myspace page. I honestly don't see it as a specific genre, but it's up to your ear to decide.
Anyway she offers a free download of her album via her myspace where you can also listen to a couple samples of her music.
